Künker sale 352, lot 2127

This specimen was lot 2127 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €1,800 (about US$2,505 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN-WEIMAR, HERZOGTUM, Wilhelm, 1640-1662. 1/2 Dukat 1651, Weimar, auf die Einweihung der neuen Schloßkirche. GOLD. R Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Weimar, William, 1640-62, half ducat of 1651, on the opening of the new palace church. Rare, about extremely fine.)"

When Saxe-Middle-Weimar lapsed in 1640, a new Saxe-Weimar was created which lasted until World War One. When Saxe-Eisenach lapsed in 1741, it was added and the new polity was called Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach.
