This specimen was lot 3755 in Goldberg sale 85 (Los Angeles, June 2015), where it sold for $646. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States: Saxe-Weimar. Taler, 1613-WA. Eight brothers, 1605-1619. Four half figures facing on both sides. Toned. NGC graded AU-50. Ex: Purchased from Louis H. Collins by private treaty in 1981." This type was struck 1612-16 in Saxe-Weimar and is among the more common thalers of the period. The eight brothers depicted were co-rulers of the tiny state; the last one, William IV, died in 1662.
