Sincona sale 11, lot 995

This specimen was lot 995 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it sold for 6,750 CHF (about US$8,357 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND Sachsen-Gotha-Altenburg, Herzogtum Friedrich I. 1675-1691. Doppeltaler o. J., Gotha. Feinsilber. Ohne Wertpunze. Zaponiert. Gutes vorzüglich. (Germany, duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg, Frederick I, 1675-91, double thaler without date, Gotha mint without counterstamp. Good extremely fine.)"

This type is noted with and without a "2" stamped into the reverse. An extremely rare 1½ thaler (KM 20) also exists.
