Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75481

This specimen was lot 75481 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[1] noted, " SAUDI ARABIA. Qirsh, AH 1376 (1957). Lahore Mint. Sa'ud bin 'Abd al-'Aziz. NGC MS-63. Steely gray, exceptionally radiant, and highly Choice." This type, accompanied by a two ghirsh (KM 41) and a four ghirsh (KM 42), was struck again in AH 1378. In 1963, the coinage was reformed so that 100 halala = one riyal and the ghirsh was dropped.

Specification: 3.2 g, copper-nickel, 22 mm diameter, reeded edge.
