Stack's Bowers September 2024 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75477

This specimen was lot 75477 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, " SAUDI ARABIA. 4 Qirsh, AH 1376 (1957). Lahore Mint. Sa'ud bin 'Abd al-'Aziz. NGC MS-63. Offering elegant cartwheel brilliance, this Choice specimen also features some hints of almond-gray toning." This type, accompanied by a one ghirsh (KM 40) and a two ghirsh (KM 41), was struck again in AH 1378. In 1963, the coinage was reformed so that 100 halala = one riyal and the ghirsh was dropped.

Specification: 11.8 g, copper-nickel, 30 mm diameter, reeded edge.
