Sincona sale 76, lot 1250

This specimen was lot 1250 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 26,000 CHF (about US$31,559 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALY | House of Savoy / Sardinia. Vittorio Amedeo III. 1773-1796. Scudo nuovo (6 Lire) 1773, Torino. Äusserst selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Fast FDC. NGC MS62+. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Victor Amadeus III, 1773-96, new scudo of six lire of 1773, Turin mint. Extremely rare, especially in this condition, About uncirculated.)"

The Duchy of Savoy was promoted to the Kingdom of Sardinia when the duke obtained that island from the Austrians in 1720. This type was struck 1773 and 1776 and both dates are rare.
