Sardinia 1773 doppietta Fr-1125
This specimen was lot 2678 in Sincona sale 87 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 7,000 CHF (about US$9,426 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIEN Savoyen / Sardinien, Vittorio Amedeo III. 1773-1796. Doppietta Sarda 1773, Torino. Prägung für Sardinien / Monetazione per la Sardegna. Sehr selten. Fast vorzüglich. Kleine Kratzer. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Victor Amadeus III, 1773-96, doppietta of 1773, Turin mint, struck for the island of Sardinia. Very rare, About extremely fine. Small scratches.)"
This very rare type was struck 1773 and 1786-87. The king struck an entirely separate series of coins for Sardinia as opposed to his domain in the Piedmont.
Recorded mintage: 13,334 including KM 79 (2½ doppiette) and KM 80 (5 doppiette).
