This specimen was lot 73472 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "SAN MARINO. Scudo, 1982-R. Rome Mint. NGC MS-69. A lustrous and brilliant example, with seemingly flawless fields and tremendous cartwheel radiance." San Marino is in the Italian Apennines and is a protectorate of Italy but remains independent. This type was struck in Rome altho the theme is vague. San Marinan circulating coinage was based on the lira but gold commemoratives were usually one, two or five scudi. San Marino now uses the euro.

Recorded mintage: 17,000, of which 1,192 were melted.
