Salzburg 1728 4 kreuzer
The first specimen was lot 2609 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "AUSTRIA: SALZBURG: Leopold Anton von Firmian, 1727-1744, AR 4 kreuzer, 1728, struck with roller dies, a superb mint state example! PCGS graded MS65, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." The second specimen was part of lot 3087 in Künker sale 384 (Osnabrück, March 2023), which sold for €280 (about US$362 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted,
"Leopold Anton Eleutherius von Firmian, 1727-1744. 4 Kreuzer (Batzen) 4 Kreuzer (Reichsbatzen) 1727, 1728, 1729, 1730 (2x), 1732, 1733. Probszt 2149, 2150, 2151, 2152 (2x), 2154, 2155; Zöttl 2592, 2593, 2594, 2595 (2x), 2597, 2598. 7 Stück., Sehr schön-fast Stempelglanz. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Leopold Anton Eleutherius von Firmian, 1727-44, four kreuzers or batzens of 1727-33. Seven pieces, very fine to extremely fine.)"
The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1727-33 and has a low catalog value.
