Künker sale 352, lot 1694

This specimen was lot 1694 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €24,000 (about US$33,401 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE GEISTLICHKEIT IN DEN HABSBURGISCHEN ERBLANDEN, SALZBURG, ERZBISTUM, Max Gandolph von Küenburg, 1668-1687. Vierfache Dukatenklippe 1673. Sechsfeldiges Wappen unter Legatenhut//St. Rudbertus mit Mitra, Salzgefäß und Krummstab thront v. v. In US-Plastikholder der NGC mit der Bewertung MS 60 (5959787-013). GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Vorzüglich. Erworben 1938 bei der Firma Julius Jenke, München. (Germany, archbishopric of Salzburg, Max Gandolph von Küenburg, 1668-87, rectangular klippe ducat of 1673. Obverse: sixfold arms under a legate's hat; reverse: St. Rupert with mitre, salt cellar and crozier. Extremely rare, NGC graded MS-60, extremely fine, bought from Julius Jenke in 1938.)"

In addition to a wide array of gold coins ranging from a quarter ducat to ten ducats, many were issued in klippe (square) format for presentation. This design was used 1668-87.
