"Guidobald von Thun und Hohenstein, 1654-1668. Einseitiger Pfennig 1658, 1659, 1660, 1662, 1666, 1667. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Guidobald of Thun and Hohenstein, 1654-68, uniface pennies of 1658-67. Six pieces, mostly very fine.)"
The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. This type was struck 1655-68 and has a very low catalog value. In the mid seventeenth century, one thaler was 72 kreuzer and one kreuzer was four pfenning. In the seventeenth century, Salzburg was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver or billon, this specimen 1.04 g.
