Rare, fine patina, minor edge defects, some smoothing, very fine to extremely fine.)"

The Archbishopric of Salzburg was an ecclesiastical state between Bavaria and Austria and usually ruled by a Hapsburg client. In the seventeenth century it was blessed with a number of productive silver mines and the prince-archbishop was a prolific issuer of coins, particularly thalers. The archbishopric was secularized in 1803 and passed to Austria in 1814. Davenport assigns the regular round issue and the klippe shown here the same catalog number. On this occasion, the archbishop also struck Dav-8192 (single thaler), -8193 (8 thaler), -8194 (6 thaler), -8195 (5 thaler), -8196 (4 thaler), -8197 (triple thaler, shown here), -8198 (double thaler), -8199 (1½ thaler) plus klippes.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 85,38 g.
