Steve Album sale 38, lot 3580

This specimen was lot 3580 in Stephen Album sale 38 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2020), where it sold for $261.80. The catalog description[1] noted, "U.S.S.R.: AE 5 kopecks, 1937, PCGS graded MS64." This type was struck 1937-46 during Stalin's rule. Altho the common dates are very common, the scarce dates (including this one) are very scarce. The succeeding type (KM Y115) of 1948-56 had the same design but was only 4.80 g.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000.

Specification: 5.21 g, aluminum bronze, 25.1 mm diameter.
