This specimen was lot 21824 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $4,312.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "U.S.S.R. Proof 1 Kopeck 1926, Proof 64 ICG. A very rare issue in Proof. Well struck, and toned, with no major flaws." In 1914, Russia plunged into World War One, which conflict would lead to the destruction of the tsarist regime. Out of the ruins of defeat was born the communist regime which issued this type in large quantities 1926-35. This specimen sold for twenty-one times the catalog value for a proof.

Recorded mintage: 87,915,000 plus a few proofs.
