This specimen was lot 21826 in Heritage sale 3010 (Boston, August 2010), where it sold for $4,312.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "R.S.F.S.R. gold Chervonetz (10 Roubles) 1923 ПЛ, Sower scattering seeds//Hammer and sickle, MS64 NGC. Orange-gold patina over lustrous surfaces with minor marks and a nice strike." In 1914, Russia plunged into World War One, which conflict would lead to the destruction of the tsarist regime. Out of the ruins of defeat was born the communist regime which issued this type in 1923 in an abortive attempt to introduce a hard currency. The type was revived in 1975-82 and sold as a bullion coin.

Recorded mintage: 2,751,000 plus a few proofs.
