Russia 1914-SP BC 5 kopeks
This specimen was lot 42758 in Stack's Bowers Summer 2026 Global Showcase Auction (Pittsburgh, September 2026), where it sold for $3,416. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. 5 Kopeks, 1914-CNB BC. St. Petersburg (Petrograd) Mint. Nicholas II. PCGS PROOF-65. A visually impressive and RARE proof specimen, offering bold details, and preciseness in the manufacture that is uncommon and stunning. A pleasing minor, made more attractive by its strong pedigree. Ex: Irving Goodman Collection (with presentation box)." This type is listed for 1867-93 and 1901-14. The nineteenth century dates are scarce in nice condition but the later dates are common with, of course, the exception of the proofs. Initials BC stand for mintmaster Victor Smirnov. The mintmark was deleted for 1915.
