Russia 1893-AG 25 kopeks
This specimen was lot 25416 in Heritage sale 3019 (Chicago, April 2012), where it sold for $1,380. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander III 25 Kopeks 1893 AГ, Bust right / Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle with date and value, MS61 NGC. Bright and lustrous with light handling marks. Rare, with a small mintage of only 8,008 pieces. Rare in Mint State." This type is listed for 1886-94. All dates are scarce to rare, especially compared to the large numbers of twenty kopeks issued in the same period. Alexander III ruled 1881-94. The assayer's initials are stamped into the edge.
