Russia 1890-AG 50 kopeks
This specimen was lot 892 in Sincona sale 19 (Zürich, October 2014), where it sold for CHF 16,000 (about US$20,051 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "50 Kopecks 1890, St. Petersburg Mint, AГ. Very rare in so high condition. Choice brilliant uncirculated with most attractive colourful patina. Collector’s note: 'RR. Only 2 006 pcs struck'." This type is listed for 1886-94, superseding the old poltina or half ruble. All dates are scarce. Mintmaster Apollon Grashof's initials are stamped into the edge. Alexander III ruled 1881-94.
