This specimen was lot 25597 in Heritage sale 3026 (Long Beach, October 2013), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander III Rouble 1887 AГ, Bust right / Crowned double-headed Imperial eagle with date and value, Large Head, AU53 NGC. A touch of golden patina over well struck devices with only a few light marks." This date is from a type struck 1886-94. The type must have been subjected to extensive melting as all dates are rare. In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams after having been fixed at 20.73 grams since 1798.
