This specimen was lot 31595 in Heritage sale 3064 (Chicago, April 2018), where it sold for $2,040. The catalog description[1] noted, "Alexander III Rouble 1886-AГ MS62 NGC, St. Petersburg mint, large head. Obv. Large head of Alexander III right. Rev. Crowned double-headed eagle with date and value. Well defined details, with full luster beneath gold and gray patina. Scarce in Mint State." This date is from a scarce type struck 1886-94. In 1886, the ruble was reduced to 20 grams after having been fixed at 20.73 grams since 1798.
