Russia 1887-AG 10 rubles
This specimen was lot 41461 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it sold for $27,600. The catalog description[1] noted, "Dazzling 10 Rubles of Alexander III, RUSSIA. 10 Rubles, 1887-AT. St. Petersburg Mint. Alexander III. NGC MS-63. This rather enticing, choice specimen presents a great deal of shimmering brilliance along with delightful cartwheel luster abounding throughout. The color verges upon a pale golden hue, with the reverse devices offset slightly by a very subtle matte nature. Tied with just two other specimens for the finest in the NGC census. Ex: Sobolin Collection." This type was struck 1886-94 and all dates are rare. The weight standard is that of an old French forty francs. Alexander III ruled 1881-94.
