Sincona sale 84, lot 424

This specimen was lot 424 in Sincona sale 84 (Zürich, October 2023), where it sold for 275 CHF (about US$370 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIA Russian Empire and Federation, 15 Kopecks 1860, St. Petersburg Mint, SPB FB. Extremely fine-uncirculated. Small spots."

This type was struck 1860-66. It was the first issue of this denomination since the reign of Catherine the Great. In 1867, the weight was reduced to 2.70 g, 0.500 fine silver and struck in that form until the collapse of the regime.

Recorded mintage: 4,480,000.

Specification: 3.11 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 3.02 g.
