This specimen was lot 2144 in Goldberg's NY International sale 59 (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "3 Kopecks 1842 EM. Authenticated and graded by NGC AU 50 BN (# 4501440-011). Brown with soft orange hues. About uncirculated." This type was struck in large quantities 1840-44 at Ekaterinburg (shown here), St. Petersburg, Suzun and Izhora. It must have been heavily used, as nice specimens are scarce.
