Jean Elsen sale 155, lot 1964

This specimen was lot 1964 in Jean Elsen sale 155 (Brussels, June 2023), where it sold for €220 (about US$288 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSIE, Alexandre Ier (1801-1825), Cu 1 kopeck, 1824 EM ΠΓ, Ekaterinbourg. Superbe à Fleur de Coin. (empire of Russia, Alexander I, 1801-25, copper kopek of 1824, Ekaterinburg mint. Extremely Fine - Uncirculated.)"

This type was struck in large quantities 1811-15, 1818-30 at Ekaterinburg. The St. Petersburg (СПБ), Suzun (KM) and Izhora (ИМ) mints also contributed.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 6.83 g, copper, 25 mm diameter.
