Künker sale 294, lot 5099

This specimen was lot 5099 in Künker sale 294 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €38,000 (about US$51,217 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"RUSSLAND, KAISERREICH, Paul I. 1796-1801. 5 Rubel 1800, St. Petersburg. Vier gekrönte Monogramme ins Kreuz gestellt, in der Mitte römische Ziffer "I", in den Winkeln jeweils die Wertziffer 5//Verzierte Tafel mit vier Zeilen Schrift, unten Zeichen für Münzstätte und Münzmeister. GOLD. Von großer Seltenheit. Feine Goldpatina, min. Kratzer im Feld der Vorderseite, fast vorzüglich. Laut Petrov: 100 Rubel. (empire of Russia, Paul I, 1796-1801, five rubles of 1800, St. Petersburg mint. Obverse: four crowned mongrams in a cross with a Roman numeral "I" in the center and "5's" in the quarters; reverse: tablet with four line inscription, mintmaster and mintmark. Very rare, fine gold patina, minor scratch in obverse field, about extremely fine.)"
