This specimen was lot 35253 in Ponterio sale 177 (Chicago, August 2013), where it sold for $846. The catalog description[1] noted, "RUSSIA. Kopek, 1718. Peter I (The Great) (1699-1725). Toned. CHOICE VERY FINE. From the Demarete Collection." In the days of Peter the Great, kopeks were struck in billon (shown here) as well as copper (KM 142 and KM 143). One hundred kopeks make a ruble. This type is rare.
