This specimen was lot 23662 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,586.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Rhine Confederation. Carl Theodor Taler 1809-CB, MS63 NGC, well-struck details with no adjustment marks or other flaws, an attractive example with subtle gray toning. Scarce type in mint state." The Rhenish Confederation was a shortlived German state set up by Napoleon to replace the antique Holy Roman Empire. It grouped his allies (Baden, Wurttemberg and Bavaria) and his puppets (Berg, Isenburg) but vanished after his fall.
