Rhenish Confederation 1809-B 1/2 thaler
This specimen was lot 4230 in Künker sale 335 (Osnabrück, Germany, March 2020), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,112 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"REGENSBURG, STADT, Carl Theodor von Dalberg, 1804-1810. 1/2 Konv.-Taler 1809. Hübscher Prägeglanz, min. justiert, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, city of Regensburg, Charles Theodore of Dahlberg, 1804-10, half convention thaler of 1809. handsome luster, minor adjustment marks, extremely fine-uncirculated.)"
The Rhenish Confederation was a shortlived German state set up by Napoleon to replace the antique Holy Roman Empire. It grouped his allies (Baden, Wurttemberg and Bavaria) and his puppets (Berg, Isenburg) but vanished after his fall.
