This specimen was lot 703 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $2,467.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Rhenish Confederation. Taler, 1809-B. NGC MS-65. Graded finest certified. Adjustment marks on bust portrait. Iridescent toning on surfaces. Very well struck with sharp details. From the Rockaway Collection." The Rhenish Confederation was a shortlived German state set up by Napoleon to replace the antique Holy Roman Empire. It grouped his allies (Baden, Wurttemberg and Bavaria) and his puppets (Berg, Isenburg) but vanished after his fall.
