Rhenish Confederation 1808-BH thaler Dav-808
This specimen was lot 877 in Sincona sale 11 (Zürich, May 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Frankfurt am Main, Grossherzogtum Karl von Dalberg, Fürstprimas der Rheinischen Konföderation, 1806-1813. Konventionstaler 1808, Frankfurt. Sehr schön. (city of Frankfurt, grand duke Karl of Dahlberg, first prince of the Rhenish Confederation, convention thaler of 1808, Frankfurt mint. Very fine.)"
The Rhenish Confederation was a shortlived German state set up by Napoleon to replace the antique Holy Roman Empire. It grouped his allies (Baden, Wurttemberg and Bavaria) and his puppets (Berg, Isenburg) but vanished after his fall.
