Künker sale 405, lot 3298

This specimen was lot 3298 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €850 (about US$1,115 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS JOSEF II., 1765-1790. Kurant- und Scheidemünzen aus der Zeit des Kaisers Josef II. ½ Konv.-Taler 1774, mit Titel Josefs II. Münzmeister Georg Christoph Busch. Stempel­schneider Johann Nikolaus Körnlein. Mit großem Kopf. Prachtexemplar. Feine Patina, leicht justiert, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (city of Regensburg, convention half thaler of 1773, struck in the name of Joseph II, with large head. Cabinet example, lightly adjusted, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck in 1774 with variations in the emperor's portrait, including KM 421 (cartoon portrait, shown here) and KM 422 (small bust).
