Künker sale 405, lot 3181

This specimen was lot 3181 in Künker sale 405 (Osnabrück, March 2024), where it sold for €8,000 (about US$10,497 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"DIE REICHSSTADT REGENSBURG. DIE ZEIT DES KAISERS JOSEFS I. Doppelter Reichstaler o. J. (1705-1711), mit Titel Josefs I. Münzmeister Johann Michael Federer. Stempelschneider Johann Pichler. Die gekreuzten Stadtschlüssel in mit Engeln und Grotesken verzierter Barockkartusche, darunter zu den Seiten je ein Münzmeisterzeichen//Gekrönter Doppeladler mit Schwert und Zepter in den Fängen, zwischen den Hälsen Reichsapfel, auf der Brust zweifeldiges Wappen (Österreich/Lothringen), umgeben von der Kette des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies. Von großer Seltenheit. Hübsche Patina, winz. Randfehler, vorzüglich. (city of Regensburg, undated double thaler, struck in the name of Joseph I. Obverse: the crossed keys of the city in a baroque cartouche, an angel and grotesques above, minmaster's initials below; reverse: crowned double headed eagle with sword and scepter in its claws, an imperial orb between its necks, impaled arms of Austria and Lorraine on its breast, Order chain around. Extremely rare, handsome patina, some edge defects, extremely fine.)"

The SCWC attributes this to 1737 (long after Joseph's death).
