Prussia 1915-A 3 mark

Heritage sale 3030, lot 23657

This specimen was lot 23657 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Prussia. Wilhelm II 3 Mark 1915-A, MS67 NGC, fully brilliant with subtle champagne toning in the legends. A very attractive example of the Mansfeld commemorative." This three mark is the last silver issue from the kingdom of Prussia. While Germany was deeply embroiled in World War One, one wonders why mint officials thought this insignificant event was worth commemorating.

Recorded mintage: 30,000 plus proofs.

Specification: 16.66 g, 0.900 fine silver, .482 troy oz ASW, 33 mm diameter.
