This specimen was lot 20216 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (Newport Beach, CA, January 2021), where it sold for $1,920. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Prussia. 20 Mark, 1913-A. Berlin Mint. Wilhelm II. NGC PROOF-63 Cameo. The sole finest certified of the date with the CAMEO designation on the NGC population report. A handsome example of the type boasting a strong strike with crisp frosted devices and mirrored surfaces that offer much reflectivity. Lovely pale golden tone slightly subdues the brilliance of the proof fields offering a pleasing appearance of this seldom encountered issue sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters." This is the final year of issue for this type. The emperor donned a uniform for the next issue of 1913-15, the last gold twenty mark struck in Prussia before defeat in World War One destroyed the empire.
