Künker sale 354, lot 6517

This specimen was lot 6517 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €300 (about US$418 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"REICHSGOLDMÜNZEN, PREUSSEN, Wilhelm I. 1861-1888. 10 Mark 1888, A. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William I, 1861-88, ten mark of 1888. Extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

Altho this type of 1874-88 was struck in large numbers and is common, there are several rare dates in the series. It was produced at Berlin (shown here), Hanover (mintmark "B", 1874-78) and Frankfurt (mintmark "C", 1874-79). This is a fairly common date.

Recorded mintage: 189,125 + proofs.

Specification: 3.98 g, 0.900 fine gold, .115 troy oz AGW.
