This specimen was lot 3221 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it sold for $529. The catalog description[1] noted, "German States - Prussia. 20 Marks, 1888-A. Wilhelm I. NGC graded MS-64." This type was struck 1874-88 and is common. Wilhelm I finally died in 1888 with his heir, Friedrich III, following a few months later, to be succeeded by Wilhelm II. 1888 came to be known as the "Dreikaiserjahr."
Recorded mintage: 533,854 plus those struck for Friedrich III and Wilhelm II.
