Künker sale 353, lot 3315

This specimen was lot 3315 in Künker sale 353 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €5,000 (about US$6,959 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRANDENBURG-PREUSSEN, PREUSSEN, KÖNIGREICH, Friedrich Wilhelm I. der Soldatenkönig, 1713-1740. 1/4 Reichstaler 1719, HFH, Berlin. Prägung für das Herzogtum Geldern. Münzmeister Heinrich Friedrich Halter. Sehr selten, besonders in dieser Erhaltung. Herrliche Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Frankfurter Münzhandlung 138, Frankfurt/Main 1992, Nr. 1384. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, Frederick William I, the Soldier King, 1713-40, quarter thaler of 1719, Berlin mint. Struck for the duchy of Gelderland. Very scarce, especialy in this quality. Handsome patina, extremely fine.)"

This rare one year type was accompnied by a 1/16 thaler, a 1/8 thaler and a half thaler. The series was struck for Prussian Gelderland, a small province on the border with the Netherlands.

Recorded mintage: unknown but few.

Specification: 0.868 fine silver, this specimen 7,09 g.
