This specimen was lot 31160 in Heritage auction 3096 (Dallas, TX, March 2021), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Portugal: Republic gold Proof "Discovery of India" 200 Escudos 1998-INCM PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC. An issue struck for the 500th anniversary of Portugal's exploration of India, exhibiting a coastal map of India against Vasco da Gama's ship on a virtually flawless planchet. From the Paramount Collection." This is one of many NCLT's issued to celebrate the glories of Portugal's past. It was issued in copper-nickel, silver, gold and palladium.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common in copper-nickel, 25,000 in silver and 5,000 in gold and 1,000 in palladium.

Specification: KM 712: copper-nickel, 36 mm diameter; KM 712a: 26.50 g, 0.925 fine silver; KM 712b: 27.20 g, 0.916 fine gold, AGW 0.8016 oz.
