This NCLT commemorates the 25th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, which overthrew the Estado Novo regime and started Portugal on the path to democracy. The uncirculated version is billon and the proofs are sterling silver. In 2002, Portugal adopted the euro and the escudo became obsolete.

Recorded mintage: 500,000 plus 15,000 proofs.

Specification: KM 715: 27 g, 0.500 fine silver, 40.1 mm diameter, reeded edge; KM 715a: 28.2 g, 0.925 fine silver.
