This cmmemorative was struck by Portugal to promote the FAO and the fisheries in general. It accompanied the regular 25 escudos with a liberty head (KM 607a). The FAO's promotion of fishing was too successful and fish stocks in the Atlantic, particularly cod and sardines, have fallen substantially.

Recorded mintage: 995,000.

Specification: copper-nickel, 28.5 mm diameter.
