Portugal 1984 250 escudos rev DSLR.jpg

This NCLT was struck by Portugal to promote a fisheries conference sponsored by the FAO in 1983-84. It is not common. The 250 escudos was first struck in 1976 and was used for various commemoratives until 1989. The FAO's promotion of fishing was too successful and fish stocks in the Atlantic, particularly cod and sardines, have fallen substantially.

Recorded mintage: 200,000 in copper-nickel plus 8,000 in sterling silver.

Specification: KM 626: copper-nickel, 37 mm diameter; KM 626a: 23 g, 0.925 fine silver.

Catalog reference: KM 626 or KM 626a.
