This specimen was lot 22485 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $14,100. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 50 Centavos 1925, MS62 NGC, beautiful red-chocolate toning. One of the key coins of all republic issues of Portugal. Incredibly elusive in any grade." This type was struck 1924-26; the 1924 is scarce and the 1926 is common. The same design was used on the one escudo (KM 576) of 1924-26.
Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.
Specification: 4 g, aluminum bronze, 20.5 mm diameter.
