Sincona sale 18, lot 3068

This specimen was lot 3068 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"1 Escudo 1926. Lissabon. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (republic of Portugal, one escudo of 1926, Lisbon mint, very fine to good very fine.)"

This is a two year type; the 1924 is scarce and the 1926 is rare despite the substantial mintage. This design was used on the fifty centavos (KM 575) of 1924-26.

Recorded mintage: 2,346,000.

Specification: 8 g, aluminum bronze, 26.8 mm diameter; this specimen 7.97 g.
