This specimen was lot 43875 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 500 Reis, 1870. NGC MS-62. Fully struck with light sprinkled tone over lustrous surfaces." This type was struck in Lisbon 1863-72, 1875-79, 1886-89 and is one of the more common of Portuguese silver coins altho the early dates can be hard to find.
Recorded mintage: 314,000.
