This type was struck in Lisbon 1867-89 and is one of the more common of Portuguese gold coins. Gold 2000 and 10000 réis bearing this portrait also exist along with a series of silver issues.

Recorded mintage: 77,000 (a common date).

Specification: 8.87 g, 0.917 fine gold, .261 troy oz AGW, 23.5 mm diameter.
