This specimen was lot 32178 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $840. The catalog description[1] noted, "Portugal: Maria II 200 Reis 1841 MS61 NGC, Lisbon mint. This piece, from a rare issue of only 868 pieces minted, is likely among the best preserved examples of the type to ever have sold on auction. The specimen is fully Mint State and displays shimmering luster and commendable detail. The finest seen by NGC, with only one other example graded." This type, the first of its denomination, was struck 1836, 1838, 1841 and 1843 only and none of the dates are common. The next issue was in 1854, when the weight was reduced to 5 g.
