This type, a ten réis or medio vintém was struck 1818-24 and is scarce in nice condition. These bronze coins received much abuse and are normally found in low grade. This denomination was struck in this form until 1839. The coin was much smaller after decimalization. King João VI was regent for his mother starting in 1799 and became king on his mother's death in 1816.
Recorded mintage: 44,257, a better date.
