This specimen was lot 24817 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "João VI Regent Peca (6400 Reis) 1812, MS62 NGC, lightly toned and original with full underlying mint luster, just a few small marks in the left obverse field." This type was struck 1804-16 but is seldom seen compared to similar coins that were struck in Brazil. On the death of his mother in 1816, João dropped the title of Prince Regent and became king.

Recorded mintage: 25,185.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW, 31.5 mm diameter.
