Stack's Bowers 2014 ANA sale, lot 1383

This specimen was lot 1383 in Stack's Bowers ANA auction (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. Peca, 1787. Maria I (1786-99). NGC EF-45. Toning around devices." This type was struck 1787 only but is seldom seen compared to similar coins that were struck in Brazil.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.34 g, 0.917 fine gold, .423 troy oz AGW, 32 mm diameter.
