This specimen was lot 36464 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Chicago, August 2022), where it sold for $408. The catalog description[1] noted, "PORTUGAL. 400 Reis, 1748. Lisbon Mint. Joao V. NGC MS-62." This cruzado novo was raised from 400 réis to 480 réis in the devaluation of 1749. The type, struck 1718-48, has a low catalog value but is seldom seen.

Specification: 1.07 g, 0.917 fine gold, .031 troy oz AGW, reeded edge, 14 mm diameter.
